My bonny barque bounds light and free across the surging faom

    I
My bonny barque bounds light and free across the surging foam.
That bears me far from Innisfail to seek a distant shore.
A lonely exile driven 'neath fortune's coldest frown
From my fond home and cherished friends in dear Kingwilliamstown.
    II
While here upon the deck I stand and watch the fading shore.
New thoughts arise within my heart of friends I'll ne'er see more.
To watch the sun o'er Knocknaboul {?} light up the heather brown.
Still thinking of the friends I loved in dear Kingwilliamstown.
This song was composed by William Mahoney, Tureenclassaugh [?], Knocknagree because he was emigrating to New Zealand about 1860. He went to school to Ballydesmond. He died in New Zealand about 1890 and is buried there. He was born in the house now owned by Michael D. Mahoney Tureenclassaugh[?] Knocknagree Co. Cork. The townlands mentioned in the song are all around his native district.
