  1. One May morning, there were old women in this district who were said to "take" the butter from their neighbours. They went on a height from whence they could see the surrounding farm houses and if there was smoke coming from a chimney they used to say - "Half the butter of that house for me.
    The people were afraid to light the fire until after twelve o'clock for fear the witch woman woman would steal their luck in butter.

    There was a farmer in Dunmanway in olden times. Each week as he made the butter a hare came in to the dairy, and the cream would never turn into butter the hare
