Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Mr. Noonan, who resides in Springlane, Ballinagree, County Cork, composed a song recently, about a person, who returned from America, and spent his money foolishly buying drink, and gambling. He is quite a young man, and very clever.
    We do not know how he obtained the gift of poetry. He composed in English only. There were no poets among his ancestors but he has the power of versemaking. The following is the song he composed.

    On last Sunday evening, as sol was declining,
    Resplendently shining I left my abode,
    On passing through Toker, my mind got uneasy
    For I being a stranger, I scarce knew the road.
    As night being approaching, my footsteps I hastened.
    Like a stream vessel sailing, I crossed Aghaloid.
    I sighed as I murmured, 'tis well I remember,
    The dancing and bowl-playing, at famed Merchant's Ford.
