   Bird Lore
   The principal wild birds in this district are the robin, wren, thrush, blackbird, sparrow, lark, crow, yellow-hammer, magpie, swallow, snipe, grouse, partridge, plibeen, swan, wild-goose, wild-duck and water-hen.
   The majority of these wild birds migrate to warmer countries when Winter is approaching here. The robin is always known to remain with us, and she is very much liked on that account.
   Each of these little birds has its own special place in which to build its nest. The robin selects a spot in a blackthorn-bush, and there makes a most attractive little nest of moss, feathers and so forth, and lines it with hair. She makes the cosiest little home of all the birds nearly. She lays about five or six eggs. her eggs are fairly small. Their colour is a kind of yellow with brown dots here and thee in them.
   The wren makes a nice little nest also. It is very small, built usually in the hole of a wall or ditch, made of the same material as the robin's, but much smaller. It is said she lays the largest number of eggs of all the birds although she is the smallest bird of all.
