- Bird Lore.
The birds most commonly found in our district are; the crow, the curlew, the grouse, the lark, the wild duck, the robin, the wren, the cuckoo, the corncrake and the swallow in Summer. The cuckoo, the corncrake and the swallow migrate.
The crow builds her nest on tree-tops. The curlew lays out in the middle of a black field, so that the eggs will receive the full benefit of the sun's rays. The grouse nests in heather. The lark nests on the ground, usually in rushy fields. The wild duck lays in a bunch of rashes by a stream or river. The robin lays in a hole in the wall.
