Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)a cross in shape is attached to the plough. This marks the ground when one drill is being opened for the second drill. The seed potatoes are got ready a few days before. Small ones are picked during the year and left aside for seed. Sometimes larger ones are used. These are cut in two. They are cut from the 'heel' end to the 'rose' end. The heel end is the end that was attached to the stalk when the potato was growing in the ground. This leaves an equal number of "eyes" in each half of the potato. The seed potatoes are left in the barn and some dry lime thrown on them. They are dropped in the drills about one foot apart. Wooden ploughs are not used but a few farmers have ploughs with an iron sock & share and the rest of it made of wood. My uncle slakes sulphate of ammonia in the drills before he closes them. My brothers and myself help our neighbours dropping potatoes in the spring.
