- The famine affected the country very much between 1866 and 1867.
The country was very thickly populated at that time.
People often point out sites of houses then occupied, but now in ruins.
There is an old house down at Roosky which is mostly in ruins now, it is known as the poorhouse walls. It was there that porridge was made out of Indian meal in very large quantities, and a certain amount given to every family, as they had nothing else. to eat. This was done by the government.

There are no accounts of seeds for the following year, because all the seed was imported from Scotland by the government.
People died in great numbers during the famine times.
Great sickness followed the long hunger.
