not allow the fights to go on. They then held the fights in a farm-yard in Killeen. The farm was the property of Mr. Martin Barron of Ballyogan.
There was another great tournament of Cock Fights in BallinCollick some years previous to this. The tournament was between the Graignamanagh cocks and the New Ross Cocks. BallinaCollick is a townland in the Co. Wexford and was reckoned to be half ways between New Ross and Graignamanagh. The Graignamanaagh cocks were winning. A New Ross supporter made a kick at the Graigue cock which was fighting and this resulted in a savage fight between all the men. Weapons of every description were used. Several men were wounded. Mr. Jas. Doherty led the Graigue men and they afterwards called him "Lord Waterford". The men got drunk on the way home and were boasting about the fight. Doherty said that Lord Waterford and his men could not win that fight with such a victory as they had won. They afterwards called him "Lord Waterford" so as to distinguish him from another man by that name. Mr. Daniel Murray was another great patron of the game. It is a very cruel sport but the men in those days paid great interest in cock fights.
