So one day he took Mrs. Cleary out of her bed and laid her down on the kitchen fire which he had already prepared for the purpose. When he had her well burned he asked her, "Was she a witch or a fairy, or was she the wife of Michael Cleary." She replied
"I am not a witch or a fairy but I am the wife of Michael Cleary." The poor woman died from the burns, and her husband father and friends buried her in a swamp under some sally trees.
