- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Cribs were also made of elder branches to catch the birds in winter & also to trap the young of thrushes finches etc. The cribs put over the nest were put on in such a way that the parent birds could still feed the young ones. The crib was to prevent the young ones from flying.
A crib to catch birds in winter was made something like this. "Four sticks were put together in the shape of an oblong or square Above those four more & so on each four joined on to the four below but getting narrow towards the top. A trap wa made at the narrow opening & when the bird went in to get the food which was placed inside the trap closed and the bird couldn't get out. - Blind beggars were frequent. When they arrived they were given food and shelter for the day. The next day when they moved on, someone of the house took the blind beggar on to the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
