  1. Some years ago in the year 1807 an old man named John O'Leary lived in Milín. He was a very clever old man and believed in piseóga. Every night after the days work was done he went rambling. One night he and a neighbour of his went rambling to Turmór. It was about half a mile from his own house. They travelled away conversing for themselves. All at once they heard a kind of a lonely cry. One of the men got frightened, but the other didn't. A river flowed by and there was a boreen beside it. John went up the boreen and turned a large stone, and the moment he did so the cry ceased. He returned to the road again and both of them went for their ramble. Soon after John's wife died and a lot of people came to her wake. About twelve o'clock, they got up to go home, and he told them sit down a while. About four o'clock in the morning John said anybody that wanted to go home could go now that the road was clear.
