- There is one forge int he parish Michael O'Rourke is the smith + his apprentice is Phill Mc Caul. The people before them have never been smiths. The forge is situated on the Killeshandra road beside the village of Newtowngore. The forge is situated next a cross road but not near a stream
The forge is a one story building. It has a roof felting. It is of no special shape. There is one fireplace withing. The bellows consists of wood + a kind of leather. There were not made locally. He uses an anvil a sledge + a hammer.
The smith shoes horses + asses but not cattle
he makes no farm implements that some smiths do. He makes the shoes for the animals.
The shoeing of carts + traps is done in the open air. This is done beside the forge.
The forge is only newly built + the old forge at the other end of the town beside Mrs Mitchell's although it has fallen to ruins is not very old so that they have not any historical story.
