- In this district creels are used for a lot of purposes Most of the land around here is hilly and a horse and cart would not be as handy as an ass and creels for putting out manure or bringing home potatoes. The bogs around here are very wet and swampy and a horse or cart could not pass through them therefore an ass and creels are the only means for getting the turf out of the bogs. Nearly every farmer around here has an ass and a pair of creels of his own.
There are a great many creel makers in this locality. John Reynold is supposed to be the best. He can make two paires of creels in the day and he charges a half-crown for making them.
