Along the Shannon banks " osier " or willow trees grew in abundance, and the industry of making baskets was very common at one time. The basket-makers turned out beautiful articles, and these got a ready sale among farmers and travelling pedlars. To this day many men and boys are very deft in handling these willows; and useful creels and " Pardóga " are turned out for sale at the Dowra Fairs.
