- Long ago there was hardly any roads, only mountain passes,and flag-steps leading to each house from the main pass. Now the country is a net-work of roads.
The local roads take their names from the townlands in which they go through. There is one very old road in this district, and it is believed, that it can be traced to Derry city, from Drumshambo (150 miles)
Those old roads were made as Relief work during the Famine period. Sometimes the people worked on them for one shilling per day, and sometimes they had to walk three or four miles to their work. Before Bridges were made the rivers were crossed by fords. There are two fords in the district.
Long ago people used to meet at cross-roads, and dance, and sing, and tell stories. In this district on the mountain there is a Mass path, leading to a Mass stone where Mass was said in Penal times.
There are a number of by-ways in this Locality.
