  1. Marriages were usually celebrated at Shrove tide. The month of May is considered unlucky for marriage also Lent and Advent.
    Wednesday is thought a lucky day for marriage.
    Sometimes matches are made and the fortune or dowry consists of money or stock.
    Marriages took place in the houses for some time after the Emancipation Bill was passed. Since that they were celebrated in the Church.
    The wedding party met in the Bride's house and then went to the Church. After the marriage they all went to the Bride's house and had a dance and a feast.
    The Bridal procession was called "the Hawling Home".
