- The grouse is of a speckled brown colour. It is just like a hen only that it has no tail. It is usually seen on the hills and when it hears you coming it rises with a screech. The grouse lives on corn and insects. Sometimes it eats little pieces of turnips. The grouse builds her nest in the heather and lays about thirty eggs. When the young ones are hatched the old ones take them out and teach them to fly. When the young ones are about a week old they are just like young turkeys.
