  1. The food that was used in olden times was potatoes mixed up with milk and salt. They ate oat-cake to their poundies as they called it.
    The people in olden times made their own corn into meal. The people took three meals in the day, and there was no such thing as white bread. They are their food in olden times with spoons.

  2. The meal for the oaten bread was ground in the mill. There was a mill at Tullyrapp, and it was owned by a man named Finlay. The farmer sent five or six bags of corn at a time to be ground and the meal was called a melder of meal. The owner of the mill got a 'mooter' out of every melder, that was about five or six pounds of meal, and the miller also usually got about a dishful of meal out of a melder.
    The new oatmeal was taken home and put into a big bin, and one or two of the people of the home got into the bin and tramped it tight, with their feet.
