- My home district is in Oakfield in the parish of Raphoe.
There are eight families in the district + about 45 people. The names are Mc Elihinney, Mc Knight,[?] Curran, Kelly, Mc Clay, + Mc Crabbs, Hyndman + Green. The houses are all slated except Mc Elhinney which is thatched + Mc Clays which is tiled.
There is one house in ruins. It is called the hang-house because a woman hanged herself in it. She hanged herself by tying a rope to the rails of the stairs + then she fastened it around her neck + let her-self drop. The field in front of the house was called the hanghouse afterwards.
There are many trees to be found in Oakfield. Around the castle there are about a square mile of trees. There[?] is one road through the centre of the trees it is called the avenue. The road begins at Hyndman's + ends at Mc Crall's at the other end.
In front of the castle there is a large lawn through the lawn there are small patches of flowers. To the back of the castle there are gardens + in the gardens there are many kinds of fruit grown. The castle is three stories high + is a reddish colour outside. The castle was owned formerly by Captain Stoney.- Collector
