shore just below the golf links. It is situated 3 miles outside the town of Rathmullen. There is a big stone on the Rathmullen shore with the design of a Celtic cross on it and some people are inclined to think that it was used at some time for a mass rock.
There was an old abbey in this town but is now in ruins. It was dedicated to Our Lady of Carmel; so it was named the Carmelite Abbey. At one time there was an underground passage from the Abbey to where the Post Office now stands. When the monks were attacked they fled with the sacred vessels into the passage where they hid them until safer times.
