- Once upon a time there was an old woman who was coming near to the end of her life. Her clergy called to see her one day. He talked to her about life and death and then he asked her if she knew who died for her. "Well, indeed," she said "when I was a young girl many a young fellow was after me, but not one of them ever died about me." "Oh, my dear woman" said the clergy "you are far in the dark." "Well," she replied "if you had been here before John put in that wee window you would have surely thought I was in the dark." "Well, well," said the clergy. "When the last day comes there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." "That may be, sir, but as for me I have just two old stumps and they go past each other, so I defy them, sir." Well, my dear friend," said the clergy "I am sorry I cannot get you to understand me, all I can do for you is this, I will put up a petition for you." "Ah, well," the woman replied, "you need not trouble yourself for the pigs will have it pulled down in the morning."
