- Shops were not common in olden times except in towns. When people want anything such as meal, flour, tea and sugar they had to go to the town for them. Buying was often carried on after Mass because the people that far away from the town had not much time during the week for coming into town. People seldom sell anything after Mass.
The goods that were sold were tea, sugar, and other groceries. Money that was usually given for the goods people bought in carts of potatoes or turnips or a cart of turf in exchange for goods.
