- Long ago when there were creameries, the people used to make their own butter at home. They had a big churn to make it. The milk was let in timber buckets for two or three days.
Then they would skim it, and put in the cream to the churn, and make the butter. It would take about an hour to make it. They had big firkins tp put the butter into.
