    any alms he'd get. Potatoes were a common alms for him He always carried them in a bag supported in front of him on his outstretched arm; 5 stones of potatoes were no trouble to him.
    About a night was as much as he wd. spend in one house. He was always more than welcome.
    His simplicity is still proverbial. If a person does anything very foolish, we hear "Tom Hickey w'dn't do that."
    He used to wear a policeman's coat & trousers.
