Long ago as the Blessed Virgin and St Joseph were going into Egypt all the plants and trees bowed down before them, except the willow which was too proud to do so. Our Lord rebuked the willow, and all its pride left it and it got humbled and sorrowful and ever since it droops and looks sad. Hence its name is the "Weeping Willow."
