  1. The people of this district have several beliefs as to weather-signs.
    Here are a few signs of the rain.
    1. When midges fly low and nip your face.
    2. Any person who has rheumatism generally suffers more than usual.
    3. When the cat sits with her back to the fire.
    4. The walls of concrete houses get damp.
    5. When craens are to be seen inland.
    6. Then sun setting pale in the evening.
    7. When the moon is enveloped in mist.
    8. When the swallows fly low.
    9. When a cat or dog scratches the leg of the table with it's front paws.
    10. A dog usually lies with his head on his front (f) paws as near to the fire as he dare go.
    11. When the starlings and crows gather together in large flocks in the fields.
    12. When frogs turn black.
    13. Snails cross the roads.
    14. A circle round the moon and stars disappearing in the sky.
    15. When the sea and lakes turn blue.
    16. Red lines in the sky.
    17. Hens staying out late in the evenings.
