  1. Carrickallen catholic church is situated about one mile from Mountain Lodge post office and nine miles from the town of Cootehill.
    In this church-yard there is a holy well known as Father Anthony's Well.
    It is fed by a shore which has its source in his gave.
    This well is situated on the North Western side of the church and is marked by a small cement cross.
    Father Anthony Smyth was born and reared in Carrickallen.
    In later years he was a curate in the parish of Laragh and he died on 31. Oct. in the year 1862 at the age of 47 years.
