    Although she is little her

    These "wren-boys" are usually given what they ask for: - "a penny or twopence to bury the wren."
    On Shrove Tuesday there is a feast before bed-time. Savoury pancakes, potato-cakes, concannon - and the old-fashioned cakes - "Boxty" are eaten.
    On Ash Wednesday no milk is taken on the tea and dry barm or barm and jam is taken instead of the home-made bread and butter. For dinner, fresh herrings are eaten with water poured over them to make a "dip" for the potatoes.
    On May-day the children decorate a tree with flowers and eggshells which they have been collecting for a long time prior to May (day)
