  1. A man named Mr. James Smyth who is now dead and lived on Eighter Hill mid-way on the road between Oldcastle and Virginia was noted for making poems and songs.
    Father Donoghue who formerly lived in "Knocktemple" was a poet.
    Mr. Jack Robinson, Virginia, Co. Cavan is a local poet who made up (made) many poems.
    Mr. Coote, Knocknaveigh, Ryefield who died ten years ago was also a noted poet. They wrote poems in English.
    Mr. Robinson is a tradesman, Father Donoghue was a Roman Catholic clergyman and Mr. Smyth was a farmer. They could read and write. They were said to be clever.
    They cannot banish rats.
