- Long ago the houses were made of wood. The wall were also made of wood and they had it roofed with scrows and thatch. The floors were made from blue clay, dried. They had no bolts for the doors. They had a hole each side of the door and they used to put the stick across the door and put it into each hole. They had very small windows so that robbers could not get into the house.
