    Remains of Church in Ballynowlar
There are the remains of a church is Ballynowlart which was destroyed by Cromwell. The people were at Mass when the Church was destroyed. About ten years ago the skulls were unearthed by local help under the direction of Father Kennedy. The skull of the priest was found facing the skulls of the congregation. They are now buried near the wall of St Broghan's Churchyard and an inscription on a wall plate over them.
A man called Shane is said to have escaped and then fled down the lane to Clonbrim and that place is now called Ballyshane. Another account is that he hid in a wood near the Cross of Kill and that place is now called Ballyshane.
