  1. Long ago people never sent for a doctor but cured themselves with remedies of their own.
    For a cold they drank boiled buttermilk mixed with sugar.
    To get rid of a wart they rubbed a black snail to it and put him on a bush. When the snail withered the wart also withered.
    For a sick stomach they drank buttermilk mixed with soda.
    When they had rheumatism they put a sliced potato in their shoe and they did not look at it
