  1. The local fairs are held in the villages of Castletown-Geo., Kilbeggan, Tyrellspass, Clara and Killavalley. Buyers transact business in the country by travelling round to farmers houses and buying pigs.
    When an animal is sold luck money is given and it is called "luck penny". When a bargain is being made the parties concerned show their agreement by striking hands. The great fair of the year locally is the 11th November, Mullingar.
