- A Ghost Story.Many years ago there lived in Heathstown
a man named Murdock. He was not a very
good man and he used to put the people out
of their houses and then knock the houses. In
those days there used to be a pass across Heathstown
for the people going to mass in Clonmellon. The
priest came along this pass. One day he was riding
his horse to a sick-call, and he met this man
who told him that he would not allow him ^not^ to
use the pass. The priest got angry and told him
that he and his imps would be in Heathstown till
the end of time. And so Heathstown is haunted by
a black dog which was seen by different people
at different times. A turkey chock is often seen and
also lights about the land at night.He and Dyas who came after him evicted
several families as Regans, Kearney's, Counihans, and
others whose names are forgotten. Regan's field Kearney's
well, and Counihan's wood are known to everybody.
Those were people who had farms and houses there in
days gone by.
