    Local Marriage Customs
Most marriages take place in my district during Shrove. Matches are still made in my district. Shrove Tuesday is the last day for Catholic marriages for seven weeks. It is unlucky to get married in the month of May. Money is given as dowry. When the pair are married the wedding breakfast is now generally held in a hotel in some town nearby. Wed-ensday is considered the luckiest day of the week to get married.
