  1. There were many matches played in Thurles long ago.
    The "Sarsfields" and the "Kickham's" played very often. There were fifteen men on each side. The "Sarsfields" colours were blue and white and the "Kickhams" black and yellow. Nobody can who was the referee at any of the matches. There were many other matches played and here are the names of some, Killiana Moycarkey, Ballycahill. Here are the names of some who were famous on the hurling field. Denis Maher, Daniel Davern, Pat Ryan and Mattie Maher.
