  1. The battle was over on Griffiths town hill,
And the shouts of the victors was heard loud and shrill,
The soldiers are out on the rebels pursue
As far out on the green fields on the hills of Carhue.
By the sycamore tree on the wood covered hill
The young rebel lay dying and is bleeding there still
The pale moon shone brightly far down from the sky
And tis over that green sod our young hero do lie.
He slowly lifted his uncovered head,
To armed brave comrades he mournfully said,
"My life is fast sinking just a few moments more,
Then all earthly troubles with me will be oe'r.
Send news to my father who is sick on the bed
And tell him the son of his bosom is dead,
Tell Mary O'Donnell my own darling wife
I love her in death as I loved her in life
O Éire my country my patriot soil
For you I have lived and for you I have died
But we have brave men who will fight for us still
Like the rebels who fought upon Griffiths town hill.
