    and Tom went his way. He gambled with his pack of cards, at fair and races and won plenty money. The five years were almost up, and Tom was planning for the future. He rented a small house near the village of Rockchapel and the chair he got from the Devil, was the only seat he had in the kitchen.
    It was a Saturday evening and Tom was shaving, when the Devil walked in. "Well Tom, my man I came for you" "Oh: said Tom, sure you would not kill me now and I having only one side of my face shaved. Wait until I am shaved and washed and I will go with you. Sit down while you are waiting. I will not be long." The Devil sat down in the only chair that was there, and Tom shaved, and laughed, and joked. The Devil got impatient, and tried to rise out of the chair, but found he could not do so. Tom went out the door, locking it after him, went into the village publichouses and drank and gambled until a late hour. He then went, home, the Devil was still in the chair, for he could not leave it without Tom's consent. He was beside himself with rage, the way Tom had him tricked. He said to Tom, I will give you another five years, if you will free me out of this, and Tom consented, as he thought he could work some other trick when his time would come
