  1. I have a churn at home. It is about five feet in length and two in breadth. When making butter the cream is put in and the cover fastened on. The churn-dash is moved upwards and downwards. The churning takes about half an hour. Strangers who come in during the churning often help at the work. The churning is done with the hand. Butter is made oftener in the summer than in the winter. For in the summer the weather is two hot and the butter would go bad. The buttermilk is a very wholesome drink. The butter is then carefully washed and salted and is then fit for use.
