    To describe it I would not presume
    Like Venus she appeared by that rive
    As it flows through the town of Macroom.

    With my heart full of sorrow & care
    Disclosing in fond conversation
    The impression her beauty had made
    Were I ruler of France or of Russia
    With you I would soon wear the Crown
    And join you in wedlock, my darling!
    You're the beauty of sweet Masseytown.

    She replied in a strain most melodious
    With precaution, selfpossession and care
    Your flattery and false insinuation
    Is more than a mortal could bear
    My parents would shun me forever
    If discovered with you in this lawn
    So go with your faults and amorous speeches
    And leave me alone by Sullane.

    Inhaling the pleasant fine air
    When she cried in a tone most disisting
    And seeing that her father came there
    His presence to me was apalling
