- (continued from previous page)calves are the Grey Calf, the Maol Calf, the Red Calf, and the Blue Calf. The name of the horse is Phil. The cow house is called the stall. When we drive home the cows, we say "How! How!" Straw and furze is put down for bedding under the cows. "Breachy" cows have to be tied by the front and back leg with a rope or chains. The tying is called a "fetters." Some cows are very cross while they are being milked and they have to be tied with a rope or chain above or below the knees in order to keep them from spilling the milk. This tying is called a "spancel." Blessed palm is hung up in the stall for luck. When ever a person enters a stall while cows are being milked he should say "God bless the work" in case of overlooking the cows. When a person is calling the calves he says "suck! suck" When a person is calling a sow, he say "bon! bon"! When calling the hens we say "tuck, tuck". Hooped eggs should not be hatched. It is unlucky to hatch eggs on Monday or Friday.
Sheep - shoen! shoen! ducks - feen! feen! cow - sup! sup!
