    Cliodna promised to set him free if she composed a song of 32 verses. This the mother succeeded in doing.

  2. From this same lady, Miss o Driscoll was got two and a half verses about the Battle of Shannonvale, near Clonakilty, where the '98 men were led by Tadg an Casna. She had the whole poem once, but can only recall these verses.

    Maidin ar mho thráth 'gan
    As árd Cille Bruidhe amuigh
    Ag áireamh na ndaoine na fearaibh
    ar an bpáirc
    Ag Yeomen na nGárdibh í sraíd Clanna Chaoilte
    Agus gur bh'é ráiteachas na ndaoine
    Gur againn do bheadh an lá.

    Do sgúirdeamar cum reatha amach
    Mar do bhí mór a'mór ar gcaraid ann
    Do bhí Tadhg Óg an Easna ann
    Agus Mícheal a Daoil ar Láimh.
