- Many local places got their names from brave warriors who lived long ago. Cahirkeem got its name from a man whose name was "Cathal an Chaoin". One morning during the spring months, "Cathal an Chaoin" prepared for a duel. He met his enemy at Cahirkeem, and they both fought bravely. After a fierce battle "Cathal an Chaoin" was killed. His oponent died shortly afterwards from wounds which he received. Both were buried at Cahirkeem At the present day the place where they were buried is marked by two stones.
