- Long ago they made bread from meal wheat and potatoes. They used bake the bread on a griddle. They used grind the grain of wheat at home with a thing called a quiran.
A quiran was a big stone with a hole in the middle of it. It came from Bantry or Cork to the people. There was a handle in the quiran one hand was to throw in the grain and the other hand to twist the handle around.
