Two priests, one from Dunmanway parish and the other from the parish of Inchageela, met one day. The priest from Dunmanway said the following lines describing Ballingeary and Gougane Barra where the River Lee rises.
A Riabhac Chnuic úd thiar is granda do dhreach
Táim ág feucaint ort leis na ciantaibh ós na h-arid anoir
Is mo riabhac cloch id Sleasaibh ó bharr go bun
Agus 'am bhirathar ní iarfainn mar áitreamh thú.
Freagra a thug an Sagart eile air.
Tá breall ar an Bánndan ní ritheann aol leí
Tá dhá cheann cheart ar ár abha-ne ar Barra Naomhtha
