  1. There is a fair held in Mountmellick on the third Tuesday of every month. On that day the farmers of the surrounding districts go to Mountmellick. They get up early on that morning, so that they might be on the fair early. the drive the cattle on the road and bring the pigs on cars. The cattle are in one part of the fair. The horses in another, the pigs in another, and so on. They go to the fair early so that they might have a good chance to sell their share of stock, for the old saying says "if you only have a goat be in the middle of the fair." The dealers begin the fair. They ask the farmers how much they want for their stock. Then the bargaining begins. When the farmers tell the dealers what they want for their stock the dealers bid them, and if the farmer is asking too much the dealer says, I will give you two pounds less. This is how the fair carries on. Sometimes the pigs are bought outside
