- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Harvey gave the order for the seizure. They advanced up the hill but before they reached the summit their attention was arrested by the blowing of horns, the ringing of the chapel bells and the shouting and whistling of men. The peasants unyoked their horses from the ploughs and galloped across the fields collecting the cattle and placed them under lock and key. The soldiers set off to intercept them but the peasants won the race. When Col. Harvey arrived everything was under lock and key. Not an angry word passed between them or an expression of ill will. The people told Col. Harvey that they would never pay the tithes again and they would always resist as they did that day. The Col. pressed the people to pay the tithes but he only got one third of the amount due. He then desisted and early in May withdraw his little army, leaving the people of Graiguenamanagh in the peaceful enjoyment of their victory.
