  1. Kilcullen belonged to the Dobbin's untill the Cromwellian confiscations. It got its name from a church which was built there long ago beside a hazel wood. It is situated in the south west of Kilkenny. It is a distance of three miles from the town of Thomastown and two miles from the village of Inistioge. It is in the barony of Gowran.
    There are eight families and about fifty people living in the townsland. The houses are nearly all newly built during the past sixty years. They are all farmers' houses except one which is a labourer's cottage. Houses were far more numerous in former days. About fifty years ago there were five more families living
