The most notable man in the Rower about the period of which we are writing was a man named William Shea.

    (continued from previous page)
One night when he was returning home from rambling the little dwarf came behind him with a spade and split his skull. When the victim was falling he bore a piece from Michileens coat and held it fast in his closed fist. Next day when the news spread of the tragic death of their famed hero they failed in everyway to find the murderer.
All the men of the Rower assembled and they carried out the ordeal of touch. Each man touched the body in a sympathetic manner until Michileen's turn came. Weeping and shivering he approached the dead body and at the touch of his hand his already stale wounds burst into blood once more. This being detected Michileen was arrested.
The jury from Kilkenny found him guilty and passed the sentence of death upon him.
