   Local Cures The cure that the old people had for the mumps was to put a donkey's halter on you and walk you through the pigsty and make you rub your mouth against the door case. The cure they had for the whooping cough was to eat meat left by a ferret. To put a donkey's halter on your and walk you across south- running water three times is a cure for the mumps.
